Deprem öncesi ve sonrası acil durum süreçlerini desteklemek amacıyla yapay zeka araçları ile fizik tabanlı simülasyonları birleştiren yeni bir hibrit yöntem geliştirildi. Bu çalışma kapsamında, 6 Nisan 2009 tarihinde İtalya’nın L’Aquila kentini ve çevre köylerini vuran 6.1 büyüklüğündeki deprem incelendi. Araştırmada, deprem simülasyonları için SPEED adlı özel bir yazılım kullanılarak binalardaki hasar durumları analiz edildi. Bu yeni yaklaşım, gelecekteki depremlerde yapısal hasarların önceden tahmin edilmesine ve kentsel dönüşüm projelerinde daha güvenli binaların inşa edilmesine katkı sağlamayı hedefliyor.
